I remember 911, 2001

I can remember September  11th. 2001, like it was yesterday.

I was watching a few children in my home, and  we had a movie

on the television….

I heard my mother in law say: “ What happened, I don’t understand”.

I went in her living room and couldn’t believe my eyes!!!!

Her T.V was on and I could see the explosion, smoke, and people

running with their hankies covering their mouths.

Confusion, yelling, grey smoke everywhere.

I nearly screamed myself… Nothing ever happens like this in U.S.

Well it did….

We were attached by terrorists.

The Twin Towers no longer existed.

I thought to myself, my niece used to work there, thank God  she

moved to New Jersey, and no longer works there.

Wondering if anyone else is hurt, alone, trapped, or dead?

You could see the people running, screaming, helicopters combing the area.

Thank God for all the Emergency help, police men, fire fighters, and just civilians

that rushed to the rescue of so many people.

Lives were gone, dad’s, mom’s, grandparents, sister’s, brother’s, cousin’s, aunts and uncle’s, children that never were able to grow old and enjoy the life that God has given us.

What has happened to the United States of America?

Nothing anyone could do, but just pray for the Lord to help us!

It seems like every Sept. 11th. we pray nothing will happen again..

Every year the same for me, worried that this will happen again.  The soldiers that are protecting us and going from land to land..

My husband was in Iraq, Sept. 11th. 2003.  I was oh so worried that something

would happen here or there.

Thank the Lord it went by and he came home after several months of protecting our country.

I have my pictures of him and my son over there.  One in particular stands out the best.

My husband with his men standing at attention, soluting the flag, Sept. 11th. in Iraq..

I would like to say THANK YOU to all then men and women in all the services.

Thank you for putting your life on the line for us, me and people who you never met.

THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart.

God Bless America and God Bless Our Flag.

Critique:Your poem has awakened the reader's memory as to where they were and what they were doing when the attacks happened. I remember being at home, reviewing for a botany exam, and thinking of how little importance the exam seemed as I watched what was happening. Reading your poem, from your point of view, seeing as to how the United States indeed is not invincible, stirring a fear that lingers up to now, it makes me realize how deep the wounds have been, no matter what citizenship, nationality or culture. All are affected, struck by such tragedy. But it's still good to see how strong people can be, that out of tragedy, there will always be something that will make people move to help another. And that there are still a lot of people who are grateful for those who sacrificed to help others. Thank you for sharing this poem. It was a wonderful read, and would need only some corrections like Nikko pointed out. Also, I can't see the images, it would have been nice to see them, too.

Critique:Hi Diane! I couldn't help but be moved with your hearfelt poem, I do feel that poems that come straight from the heart really have that certain something which makes the reader feel it too, & this is one of those works. While reading the first few stanzas, I couldn't help but remember where I was when I watched what happened to the twin towers that ill-fated day (up to now, I can't help but get goosebumps, as in right now, when I remember that) I was in the living room, together with my family (it was nighttime over here) & was just plain shocked to see what was happening--like you I asked that question-"What has happened to the United States of America?" & I remember sharing it immediately with my bedridden grandpop, who served in WW2... Great work in being able to capture the moment for you, as well as expressing the emotions of what it felt like to know of what had transpired...I am definitely with you in thanking those who risk their lives in protecting your wonderful country. They indeed are heroes. Just some misspelled words that I noticed--"attached" would it be you mean "attacked"; "soluting"--"saluting" Aside from that, your write definitely made an impact on me, & I'm thankful that despite the horrors of that day, indeed, something very beautiful still came out of it--the tenacity & heart of the people, coming together to help each other, & for that I truly thank God.
