The Last Waltz

The Last Waltz - a winter romance

In silver hues, desire’s glow is cast

to gently charm each pretty white princess;

sweet debutantes upon a stage so vast.

The moon lies back and lets his light caress.

Each tiny maiden pirouettes and glides,

their dance of beauty serves to mesmerise.

Entranced, the moonlight on their surface rides,

in love’s embrace they leave the cobalt skies.

With perfect unity they spin and twirl,

their heightened senses hold both joy and pain,

for as they fall and let their hearts unfurl,

they know that they will never waltz again.

A quiet, peaceful mood transforms the night,

a lovers’ blanket cloaks the earth from sight.

Critique:Enchanting - this is simply lovely  and so visual. Did you submit this for publication anywhere? Is it meant to be bittersweet? For it evokes a bit of sadness in me. Jacquie

Critique:I really really loved this :) For a first time writing a sonnet, you definitely seem to have a knack for it (though I'm not familiar with sonnets)--the flow and rhythm of your sonnet is just beautiful, and lends sucha a magical and romantic feel to it--I'm very much reminded of "The Nutcracker" complete with Tchaikovsky in the background--very timely for Christmas, yet it also has a sad feel to it, when you think of the "last waltz" of those snowflakes...loved the second stanza, the imagery there is just so perfect! Thanks again for sharing this magical piece Sharon :)

Critique:This is a really enchantingly beautiful sonnet. I love the concept you've given here, it's so fairy-tale-esque (is that a valid term?). I can't quite choose a favorite line, they're all so beautiful! And this is a wonderful first attempt...you may have just found another style you are good at :)!  I'm really glad I got to read this here :). Thanks for sharing this wonderful sonnet, Sharon.
